Melbourne, AU – ‘Visible/Invisible’ at the Flinders Lane Gallery from April 5th to 23rd 2011 features works by a group of contemporary artists. Visible/Invisible enters the space between the seen and the unseen, the conscious and the unconscious, testing and exploring boundaries on a visual, spatial, and material level. In this arena of half light, the everyday meets with the wondrous and the strange, and memory, myth, and dreams intermingle with the visible world. This exhibition attempts to highlight the infinite layers of veils that we all see through in engaging with ‘reality’. The everyday meets with the fantastic, the wondrous and the strange. In this arena of half light, memories, myths, and dreams intermingle with the visible world. What the eye sees in this space, from the infinite possibilities in every view, functions as a mirror on the self. Everything we see is viewed through our own personal layers of dreams, experiences, & beliefs. Through examining the gaze, and what it seeks, the imaginings that overlay the material substance of our visible world become clearer.
