Naftali steps down as director of Nixon library

LOS ANGELES (AP).- The director of the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum, who reorganized the Watergate exhibit, is stepping down. The Nixon Foundation says Timothy Naftali’s resignation becomes effective Nov. 19. Naftali has directed the library since 2007. During that time he led the transformation of the Watergate exhibit, a makeover that scholars say provides a more balanced and accurate account of the scandal that brought down a president. Naftali tells the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/vxUT7S) his intellectual interests go beyond the Nixon presidency and he plans to pursue them. Naftali says he intends to return to writing and plans to complete a book he’s been researching on President John F. Kennedy. The Times says Naftali also will join the New America Foundation, a think tank, as a senior research fellow.
