Coastal Town to Be Transformed by Six Contemporary Artists

LONDON.- Launching in September 2010, Wonders of Weston will feature artworks by six internationally renowned contemporary artists: Ruth Claxton, Tim Etchells, Lara Favaretto, Tania Kovats in association with landscape architects Grant Associates, raumlaborberlin and Wrights & Sites. Responding to the changing fortunes of the British seaside town since the decline and rise again of the British seaside holiday, each of the artists has developed an artwork which will create a new talking point or meeting place for the visitors and inhabitants of North Somerset’s primary resort. Wonders of Weston is exemplary of a growing number of contemporary art projects contributing to the resurgence of seaside towns across the country as evidenced recently in Margate, Jaywick and Folkestone. The artworks will be produced by Bristol-based public art commissioners Situations and Field Art Project as part of Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment’s (CABE) Sea
