SEATTLE, WA.- Derrick Cartwright is resigning as SAM’s Illsley Ball Nordstrom Director effective June 30, 2011. Mr. Cartwright was named the museum’s director in May 2009. “This was a difficult decision for me but I feel the timing is right for a leadership change at SAM,” said Cartwright. “SAM is today in a much stronger position than it was two years ago. A lot of people have contributed to this regained stability and I want to take this opportunity to thank them for their support.” Cartwright will be pursuing several scholarly projects that have been put on hold for a number of years. He will remain at SAM until June 30 and has been asked by the board to remain a consultant to the institution until September 2012.
