Susan Anderson presents “High Glitz” ~ Child Beauty Queens

'Savanha' by Susan Anderson - © Susan Anderson - Photo: Courtesy acte2galerie.

PARIS.- Susan Anderson portrays people who
have
become so unreal it is hard to conceive that not the photo but the
person was
edited. Coming from a background of commercial and editorial photography
she
knows how to tell a story within a single frame. Her pictures of the
queens of
child beauty pageants are eerie in their honesty. These pictures where
not
staged, in fact, they are snapshots taken within a 5 minute frame that
the
contest organizers would give her. These children are so conditioned to
strike a
perfect pose every time a lens is aimed at them. While seducing the
camera these
children seem to have aged well beyond their years.

LONDON.- Michael Hoppen Contemporary
brings
together two contemporary photographers who have documented the
sartorial
expressions of particular communities in the Congo and South Africa.
Daniele
Tamagni and Araminta de Clermont befriend their respective subjects and
utilize
the camera to create unique records of these communities. Tamagni’s
images
brilliantly capture the energy and pride of the Sapeurs of the Congo.

The works have a Cartier Bresson spirit with their vibrant ‘decisive
moments’
and energetic displays of colour. De Clermont’s portraits reference the
glamorous feeling of contemporary editorial images – her bright, hot
daylight
flash reminding one of the images filling the glossy pages of fashion
and music
magazines.
