WASHINGTON, DC.- One of the 20th century’s
most
influential artists, Yves Klein (French, b. Nice, 1928; d. Paris, 1962)
took the
European art scene by storm in a prolific but brief career that lasted
only from
1954 to 1962. “Yves Klein: With the Void, Full Powers,” on view at the
Hirshhorn
Museum from  May 20 through September 12, 2010, is the first major
retrospective of the artist’s work in the United States since 1982.

Co-curated by the Hirshhorn’s deputy director and chief curator Kerry
Brougher
and Dia Art Foundation director Philippe Vergne, formerly chief curator
and
deputy director at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, the exhibition is

co-organized by the Hirshhorn and the Walker and developed in full
collaboration
with the Yves Klein Archives in Paris.

WOLVERHAMPTON,
UK.- “Stories” is a captivating mix media
show which is hosted by Wolverhampton Art Gallery this summer. Featuring
the
work of 9 artists from varied creative backgrounds, works inspired by
fairytales, mythology and childhood memories are displayed for an
engaging
summer experience. Including paintings, sculpture, installations and
textiles
the show has a range of diverse artworks for visitors of all ages to
explore.
From the large scale light installations of Aether and Hamera to the
drawing
based textiles of Maria Holohan, the gallery space is set to be
transformed. On
view until 4 September, 2010.

NEW YORK, NY.- The New York City
Department of
Parks & Recreation, The Broadway Mall Association, Marlborough
Gallery, and
the New York City Department of Transportation are pleased to announce a
public
exhibition of monumental sculptures by Spanish artist Manolo Valdés from
May 20,
2010 through January 23, 2011. The exhibition will include sixteen
bronze
sculptures along Broadway from Columbus Circle to 166th Street. Each
sculpture
will include signage that displays mobile phone access numbers for an
English
and Spanish language audio tour with informative descriptions of the
works.

DUBLIN.- An exhibition presenting artworks

recently acquired for IMMA’s Collection, marking the first occasion that
these
works have been shown at the Museum as part of that Collection, opens to
the
public at the Irish Museum of Modern Art on Wednesday 19 May 2010.
Collecting
the New comprises some 42 works which have, for the most part, been
acquired
since 2005, through purchase, donation and loans. Twenty-six
Irish and
international artists are represented, including Amanda Coogan, Patrick
Hall,
Stefan Kürten, Catherine Lee, Janet Mullarney, Makiko Nakamura, Hughie
O’Donoghue, and Susan Tiger. The exhibition reflects the Museum’s
acquisition
policy that the Collection should be firmly rooted in the present,
concentrating
on acquiring the work of living artists, but also accepting donations
and loans
of more historical art objects with a particular emphasis on work from
the 1940s
onwards.

MEXICO CITY.- A scientific team discovered inside a pyramid
the tomb of a dignitary that may be the earliest in Mesoamerica. It was
located
in Chiapa de Corzo Archaeological Zone, in Chiapas; preliminary studies
reveal
an age of 2,700 years approximately. Osseous rests of 4 persons, 2 of
them
richly adorned with jade beads and pearls; ceramic utensils and other
objects
that were treasured in that time and place were discovered at the Zoque
affiliation site. According to researchers the academic importance of
the
finding lies in the possibility it gives of adjusting Maya and Olmeca
development stage chronologies as well as confirming the custom of using

pyramids as funerary precincts goes back in time to an earlier age that
thought.

LONDON.- A portrait of General James Wolfe
set
against the Plains of Abraham at Quebec where he heroically lost his
life in a
battle against the French is expected to fetch £80,000-120,000 when it
is
auctioned at the Old Master Paintings sale on Wednesday 7th July at
Bonhams, New
Bond Street. William Pitt the Elder appointed Wolfe to lead the British
assault
on Quebec in 1759. The resulting Battle of the Plains of
Abraham (or
the Battle of Quebec) is one of the most celebrated events in British
military
history and a pivotal victory in the Seven Years’ War. The
confrontation, which
began on 13 September 1759, was fought between the British Army and
Navy, and
the French Army, on a plateau just outside the walls of Quebec City.

YORK, NY.- Jen Bekman Gallery presents …Practice…, thirty-seven
photographs by Gregory Krum. …”Practice”… is Krum’s first solo
exhibition in
New York and it will be on view through Sunday, June 27th, at Jen Bekman

Gallery, located at 6 Spring Street, New York, New York. Titled after
Gerhard
Richter’s book The Daily Practice of Painting, …Practice… embraces
Richter’s
convictions about art and art making. In a series of carefully grouped
photographs, Krum explores the ways in which truth is derived simply by
virtue
of belief.
