NEW YORK, NY.- Hasted Hunt Kraeutler
presents an
exhibition of new photographs from the body of work
Lowdensitypolyethylene by
Julian Faulhaber. The German-born photographer made his United States
debut in
Chisel curated by Kathy Ryan of the New York Times at the first annual
New York
Photo Festival in 2008. His first gallery show in New York followed in
the fall
of that year at Hasted Hunt Kraeutler. Since then, Faulhaber
has been
named a new and emerging photographer to watch in 2009 by Photo District
News
(PDN) and has been included in the exhibition Reality Check: Truth and
Illusion
in Contemporary Photography at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. On
view 8
May through 26 June.

NEW YORK, NY.- Paul Kasmin Gallery
presents the
exhibition A Venomous Bloom by Kent Henricksen. Opening on May 6, 2010
at 511 W.
27th Street, this will be the artist’s first show with the gallery, on
view
through 5 June. In Henricksen’s canvases, gods and thieves, ladies and
marauders, angels and tricksters are brought together and transformed
through
the use of silkscreen, embroidery, and gold leaf. Characters
drawn from
such diverse sources as Albrecht Dürer woodcuts, historical newspaper
illustrations, José Guadalupe Posada engravings, and Max Ernst collages
are
recast into new roles, telling new tales.

ROME (AP).- A finely
painted portrait of a demurely looking woman nestled in an
exceptionally
ornate frame that was kept in an Italian ducal palace storeroom
appears to
be a Raphael original and not a copy as long thought, an art
official in
central Italy said Friday. However, experts on the Renaissance
giant
quickly cautioned that art historians would have to closely study
it
before any conclusions can be made.

NAPLES, FL.- The Naples Museum of Art in Florida has
received, through a generous corporate gift, Louise Nevelson’s largest
sculpture
installation and her last major work, Dawn’s Forest. Commissioned and
owned by
Georgia-Pacific LLC and MetLife for the Georgia-Pacific Center in
Atlanta,
Dawn’s Forest has been part of a corporate collection since it was
created in
the 1980s and has never been shown in a museum setting. It is
Nevelson’s largest and most complex sculptural environment, containing
elements
culled from previous works dating to 1971. The Naples Museum of Art will
unveil
the monumental installation, which consists of a dozen individual
sculptures, in
October.
