MOSCOW – At the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Anton Corbijn will personally introduce the audience to 170 photo-portraits, to be reckoned among the most significant works in the history of photography. David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Martin Scorsese, Frank Sinatra, Morrissey, Bjork, Luciano Pavarotti, William Burroughs, Steven Spielberg, Takeshi Kitano, Kate Moss, Nirvana and U2 – this is only an abridged list of celebrities photographed by Anton Corbijn.

YORK, NY.- Gavin Brown’s enterprise (GBE) presents the
restaging of Jonathan Horowitz’s widely acclaimed 2002 exhibition “Go
Vegan!”
Originally presented at Greene Naftali Gallery, this major installation
work
will be updated by the artist for a new site: the former butchery of
storied
meat purveyor Pat LaFrieda Meats, which stands adjacent to GBE at 601
Washington
Street. Opening May 9th, “Go Vegan!” takes the form of a full-scale,
multi-room
environmentThe exhibition will remain on view through June 19th.
STOCKHOLM.- Keren
Cytter has rapidly established
herself internationally as one of the most interesting and unique
artists on the
contemporary art scene. At the mere age of 33 (born 1977 in Tel Aviv,
currently
living and working in Berlin), in the last eight years she has produced
more
than 50 video works, written three novels and an opera libretto, started
the
dance and theatre company D.I.E. Now, won awards and is the darling of
the art
press. Last summer, she exhibited at the New Museum’s group
show
Younger Than Jesus and participated in the Venice Biennale. Cytter says:
“I
studied art because I wanted to go to New York and wash dishes.”
BERN.- The Kunstmuseum Bern is putting on a large
retrospective of
Albert Anker’s manifold oeuvre to commemorate the centenary of this key
Swiss
artist’s death. The exhibition will take up several themes
representative for
Anker’s work and demonstrate how exceptional he was as a painter. Video
works by
Chantal Michel, a performance and media artist who lives in Bern,
enhance the
presentation. A trigger for this exhibition was the immensely
popular
Anker show that was organized by the Kunstmuseum Bern in 2007-2008 for
four
Japanese Museums.

RAPIDS,
MI.-Just one week
after Frederik Meijer Gardens &
Sculpture Park opened its
large-scale indoor and
outdoor exhibition “Chihuly: A New Eden,” the organization to welcomed
its
six-millionth visitor. Graham and Grace Clark of Sault Ste. Marie,
Ontario were
greeted by Fred Meijer and David Hooker, Meijer Gardens’ CEO yesterday
at
11 AM.The couple
received a one-year membership to Meijer Gardens and two tickets to the
special
15th anniversary concert with Lyle Lovett on August 7.Meijer
Gardens originally calculated
the visitor milestone to occur in late May. Chihuly’s 15 site-specific
installations across the 132-acre campus have attracted more than 17,000
visitors in the first week alone. The exhibition earned instant
popularity and
ushered in the six-millionth visitor much sooner than expected.
NEW YORK, NY (REUTERS).- A huge mural, the
largest-ever of Spain in modern history, returns this week to a
long-neglected
Manhattan museum that has been renovated with grants from Spain. “Vision
of
Spain,” which consists of 14 panels that together measure 230 feet by
11.5 feet
was painted nearly a century ago by Joaquin Sorolla, Spain’s pre-eminent
painter
of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The 14 panels, which showcase
10
regions of Spain and include large brush strokes painted with huge
brushes, took
Sorolla eight years to complete. The mural returns to New York after a
two-year
tour of Spain where it was viewed by more than 2 million
people.

ATLANTA,
GA.- The High Museum of Art, along with its
co-organizer 306090, Inc. has been selected to present the exhibition
Workshopping: An American Model of Architectural Practice at the U.S.
pavilion
at La Biennale di Venezia, the 12th International Architecture
Exhibition. La
Biennale opens to the public on 29 August and is on view through 21
November
2010. Workshopping explores the role of the trans-disciplinary
collaborations in
architecture, spotlighting seven architecture projects with a focus on
research
and social engagement.
CAMBRIDGE, MA.- Data Sets comes out of a
six-year
exchange between painter Daniel Kohn and scientists at the Broad
Institute of MIT and Harvard. Through a series of conversations and
residencies at the Broad, Kohn explored the conceptual framework
surrounding
genomics. As a result, his own visual language and artistic method
transformed
as he was exposed to the methods, challenges, and technologies of
genome-based
research. On view through 15 August. The Broad Institute evolved from a
decade of informal and successful research collaborations among young
scientists
in the MIT and Harvard communities.
MEXICO CITY.- Altars, plazas and ballgame
courts,
among other Prehispanic structures that are still buried at El Tajin,
Veracruz
may be detected by using LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) devises.
Archaeologist Patricia Castillo Peña, academic director of the site in
custody
of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) informed
that
mapping the archaeological zone is a project that will allow to have
detailed
register of ancient structures. She commented that the
initiative is
being revised by the INAH Archaeology Council. In case of being
approved, an
agreement between INAH and Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) will be set to
determine
the company with the LIDAR technology that may conduct the inspection,
to be
selected by PEMEX.
