Los Angeles , CA – Norbertellen Gallery
is pleased to present a survey of Indian Mithila art over the last 20
years.   The ancient land of Mithila
comprises what is today part of the north Indian state of Bihar as well as part
of southern Nepal. Mithila was the birth place of Sita, the heroine of the great
Indian epic the Ramayana. Popular legend dates the beginning of Mithila
art to at least 5,000 years ago when, at the marriage of Sita and Rama, her
father King Janak decreed that everyone should paint their homes with gods and
goddesses to celebrate the happy occasion. On exhibition 8 July through 31
August.
