Parsons Fine Arts will open its MFA studios and student gallery to the public on Sunday, November 21th from 12 – 4pm. This showcase offers visitors a glimpse of a challenging studio art program situated in a school of art, media and technology that embraces interdisciplinary experimentation and innovation. Featuring sculptural interventions into the school’s architecture, paintings that rework documents from the archives of the KGB and videos that parody the imagery of Bombay musicals, the creative output of Parsons MFA students speaks to the global breadth of their cultural references and conceptually informed nature of their practices.

The MFA in Fine Arts at Parsons is a two-year program committed to expanding the formal and intellectual dimensions of emerging artists’ work. In addition to intensive ongoing studio critiques with in-house faculty and peers, students also benefit from interaction with an array of visiting artists and critics who are redefining the cutting edge of art in the 21st century. This years guests include artists Sharon Hayes, Aki Sasamoto, Laylah Ali and Daniel Bozhkov, and critics Jan Avgikos, Carissa Rodriguez and Rashida Bumbray.

The Fine Arts program has evolved and expanded over the past year, with new courses such as a Transdisciplinary Seminar focusing on intersections of art and science, new courses that explore New Genres practices, and a new International Artist-in-Residence Program that will begin in the Spring of 2011.

Parsons School of Art, Media and Technology will also host a school-wide open house for prospective students on November 11th, from 6 – 9pm. The MFA Fine Arts Studios will also be open during this time.
