The Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros [CPPC] is pleased to announce our latest digital initiatives, launched in conjunction with our exhibition La invención concreta, on view at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid through September 16, 2013. The exhibition was co-curated by the Director of the Reina Sofía, Manuel Borja-Villel, and the Director and Chief Curator of the CPPC, Gabriel Pérez-Barreiro. It features works of geometric abstraction from the 1930s to the ’70s and is organized, not in a traditional way such as geographically or chronologically, but rather by connections between artists’ intentions.

La invención concreta provided the CPPC with the perfect opportunity to develop innovative digital components that would not only enhance the exhibition but stand alone as interactive educational tools. With the help of the digital design team Bluecadet, we developed an innovative website and an app. The website, www.lainvencionconcreta.org, offers visitors the chance to browse high-quality images and information about the works, build personalized virtual tours of the show and share their experience through social media [Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook]. Additionally, visitors can access an audiovisual guide of the exhibition while in the galleries by visiting the website on their mobile device.

The iPad app, which is available for free download through iTunes here, is a portal for accessing the exhibition’s content and expanding upon it with additional material not seen in the museum itself. The user can navigate a mindmap designed for the show, exploring the relationships between groups, individuals and ideas, as filtered through five key intentions—illusion, geometry, vibration, dialogue, and universalism. The app also includes materials ranging from videos of artists interacting with their works to related archival material such as manifestos and magazines.

These digital tools may be used to enhance the experience of a visitor to the exhibition, but they also act as educational tools for those unable to travel to see the exhibition in person or after the close of the physical exhibition. No matter where you are in the world, if you have access to a computer or an iPad, you can visit the show virtually and learn more about this incredible period in Latin American history.
About The Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros
Founded in the 1970s by Patricia Phelps de Cisneros and Gustavo A. Cisneros, the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros (CPPC) is one of the core cultural and educational initiatives of the Fundación Cisneros. Based in New York City and Caracas, the wide-ranging program was established in order to advance scholarship on Latin American art, promote excellence in visual-arts education, and encourage a high level of expertise among Latin American art professionals. The CPPC additionally works to enhance appreciation of the diversity, sophistication, and range of art from Latin America. The CPPC’s activities include exhibitions, publications, grants for research and artistic production, as well as other innovative initiatives specially designed to create communities for discussion and reflection.

About the Museo Reina Sofía
The Museo Reina Sofía opened its doors in 1990 to show contemporary Spanish art in relation to the international context. Its collection consists of more than 20,000 works from the late nineteenth century to the present, five percent of which is exhibited at the Museum and includes works by artists such as Picasso, Miró, Dalí, Juan Gris, Braque, Richard Serra, Magritte, Gerard Richter, Muntadas, and Sol Lewitt among many more. The centerpiece is Guernica (1937), by Pablo Picasso. The collection presents intertwined micro-narrations, cosmologies that help the understanding of the relations between the works. It is constituted as a space for discussion and research through seminars and university programs born of the relationship between education and exhibitions, collection, and public programs.
